Mind of Their Own

Now that our kids are technically adults I am finding a new challenge in realizing that they have a mind of their own. We had a conversation with Chad this weekend, and it doesn't even matter what it was about, where he voiced a very strong opinion about something that we definitely did not agree with. I admit that I may have felt very defensive and a little hurt about what he said, at first. When I had a chance to step back and think about it I realized that it's Ok for our kids to think differently and have their own thoughts on things. I certainly do not always agree with my parents and I know I don't want my kids to be a clone of me. We have tried to raise them to think independantly, be strong, self confident people. With that, a natural product will be a new way of thinking about things. It's humbling to me, since I want to think that our kids think we are making the best decisions and have all the answers when actually the more I think that, the less I realize that I do. They are out in this big world with so many things shaping their opinions, just like we were. All I can do is pray for them and hope that every decision and opinion they have is centered around God. That should keep me busy for awhile.
