I didn't mean it

Rich has been away this weekend. This left me with a lot of time on my hands. I decided I would take advantage of the nice weather and replant flowers in my window boxes and planters. I usually feel very overwhelmed with this every year. I arrive at the garden store with a list and ideas in mind from hours of searching in magazines and the Internet. The problem is that I get there and there are approximately two of the kind of plants or flowers I am looking for. I get substitutions but feel like a green thumb failure. It also doesn't help that every plant is a quarter of the size of the pictures that I saw. It blows my grandiose plans out of the water. I always come away feeling less enthusiastic about this project as I am pulling out of the garden center.
Not to be discouraged, I am determined to finish this task. My first task is the window boxes. In order to reach these I have to reach through the front upstairs windows and pull them through the window to take them outside and replant. I threw up the window to the first and see this.

Robin's egg that almost looks fake

Yes a lone lovely Robin egg  in a lovingly built nest that a momma Robin made when she arrived after a hard winter. After a second I realized there is no possible way I can disturb this little home and that I will just have to wait to change this window box. I moved on to the second one. Things looked clear. No sign of any other nests. I removed the greens and pine ones that were in there and saw a small little group of moss but didn't think anything. After I got it outside I realized down deep in that little pile was the newest, tiniest, just-hatched bird.
In that little pile is a baby wren.
What had I done! I had disturbed a little bird family. I felt sick. Then  I saw the mother Wren fluttering around where her nest used to be. This little wren is one of my favorite birds to visit our feeders. Would she know I had done this? I quickly replaced the window box near where it had been and being the good mother she is, she found her nest and was caring for her newborn. I am hoping all will be well. I didn't mean it. If I was a momma bird I would also build a nest in a window box. It's safe away from danger and close to the house safe from rain and wind.

I did finish planting the other flowers and spruce up the yard a bit. It feels good to be outside and feel the sun. It's been a long, gray winter.

I have high hopes that this will be lush like the photos I see.

Love fresh herbs

Gun'r helping with the gardening.

I also did not mean to eat my weight in chocolate this weekend. I didn't feel like cooking since Rich was gone so I may or may not have eaten chocolate as a meal substitute. It's really his fault as I see it.

Happy Spring everyone!
