Ganache. I kind of wanted to drink it with a straw. |

My two Chowdaheads. |
What's Doin? I chose this recipe this week onna-conno ("on account of" to the rest of the US) I had a hankering for Boston Cream Pie, Oh so don't I? Back in the day when my dad had his bakery I loved getting one for a special occasion dessert. I know it is sort of "pedestrian" but Oh my, Wicked good! Don't be a Chowdahead and use a pudding mix to make the filling, I think you need to make the custard yourself. The real stuff is beyond delicious. OK, I am done even trying to attempt the Boston dialect, it is probably some sort of crime to Bostonians everywhere and I do not want to swim with da fishes. Also, who am I to comment on geographical dialects when I live in PA Dutch Country and near people that say Yinz for You in the plural which goes against everything I believe in? That word makes me shutter, lose sleep and tend to deny being from PA.
I followed Martha Stewart's Boston Cream Pie Cupcake recipe but proudly used a cake mix for the cupcakes. You know how my plan was to be alone on Wednesday nights and make cupcakes? I forgot about the fact that a couple a Chowdaheads were coming home from college and would be waiting like baby birds everyday when I get home for something to eat. It is unreal the amount of food they can eat! So, for every one's sake I did the quickest thing and used a cake mix.
Seriously though, it makes my heart happy to have all the kids home. I love how they really like each other and that they boys go out after dinner to throw the football or go shoot hoops just like when they were young. I also like that they don't come running into the house after about 10 minutes saying that the other one wasn't playing fair or that they have an extremity hanging off their body. Even their sister is around more often when they are around, confirming that we are far less interesting than her brothers.
These cupcakes do need to stay in the Reefah (fridge), OK had to get one more in, so keep that in mind. These are really, really good, you should try them. Like I said, make your own "pastry cream" as Martha calls it. Can't you just hear her saying it? You also should make the ganache. It is super easy and so decadent. You can be the judge about the cake part. I figure when you add the delicious cream and chocolate, no one will know. I won't tell if you won't.
